Abstract

Introduction: Ethnobotany plays a crucial role in preserving the cultural heritage of indigenous communities. The Sasak community in Lombok, Indonesia, is deeply connected to their natural environment, utilizing local flora in various aspects of their daily lives. 

Objectives: This paper aims to investigate the role of ethnobotany in preserving the cultural heritage of the Sasak people, emphasizing traditional knowledge and practices related to local plant use. 

Methods: Qualitative methods were employed, including interviews with community elders and field observations, to document the ethnobotanical practices of the Sasak community. The study focused on the use of plants in rituals, medicine, and daily life, analyzing their significance in maintaining cultural identity and promoting sustainable living. 

Results: The findings reveal that ethnobotanical practices are integral to the Sasak cultural heritage, with specific plants playing key roles in traditional rituals and medicinal applications. The study highlights the importance of documenting and preserving this traditional knowledge to ensure its transmission to future generations, especially in the face of modernization and environmental challenges. 

Conclusion: Ethnobotany is essential for preserving the cultural heritage of the Sasak community in Lombok. The insights gained from this study contribute to broader discussions on cultural heritage preservation and the sustainable use of biodiversity. Efforts to document and protect this traditional knowledge are crucial for maintaining the cultural identity and sustainability of indigenous communities.
